Boys' leather school shoes at Mathers are lace-ups and adjustable styles from Colorado and ROC, in black and brown leather for junior, youth and senior students. Leather shapes to the foot over the first few weeks, so aim for snug rather than tight, and our boys' black school shoes cover the colour most uniforms ask for.

Students still learning to tie laces can start in Colorado Hybrid, which has a hook and loop strap, or in the adjustable versions of Colorado Demo, Renegade and Roar Junior. ROC Rapp Junior is a leather school shoe in black or brown, and Roar Junior also comes in brown for schools with a brown uniform.
For senior students, Colorado Roar is the leather lace-up our fitters rate most for durability, made in black and brown and in C, D, E and F width fittings in senior sizes. Colorado Daze and Hiace are further lace-ups, and ROC Strobe has a more formal look for schools with a traditional uniform. Year 7 students usually move into a senior lace-up, following what older students wear.
Full grain leather keeps the natural surface of the hide, so it flexes, breathes and polishes back after scuffs, while coated or sprayed leather tends to crack across the toe sooner. Some schools require full grain leather, so check the uniform guide first. A well-fitted leather pair often lasts until it is outgrown, which makes it cheaper per week of wear.
Most early wear comes from how the pair is used. Handball and footy scuff the toe and split the sole, and kicking shoes off without undoing them breaks down the heel. Pack sneakers for sport, undo the laces each time and polish weekly. Brown leather needs a brown polish, and our brown school shoes show every brown style in one place.
Q: Are boys' leather school shoes worth the cost?
A: For most students, yes. Full grain leather outlasts synthetic materials and polishes back after scuffs, so one well-fitted pair often lasts until it is outgrown, especially when it is kept for school rather than sport.
Â
Q: Do boys' leather school shoes come in wide fittings?
A: Some do. Colorado Roar is made in several width fittings in youth and senior sizes. Our team measures width as well as length in store.
Â
Q: Which leather school shoes suit junior students?
A: Colorado Hybrid, Demo Adjustable, Renegade Adjustable and Roar Junior fasten without laces, which suits students who are still learning to tie them. ROC Rapp Junior is another leather option in black or brown.
Â
Q: How do I dry wet leather school shoes?
A: Stuff them with newspaper and leave them at room temperature. Keep them away from heaters, which dry leather out and cause it to crack.
Â
Q: Why do new leather school shoes feel stiff?
A: New leather is firm, especially after a summer in sandals or sneakers. A correctly sized pair softens within the first weeks of term, so wearing them around the house beforehand helps.
