Boys' black school shoes at Mathers are leather lace-ups and adjustable styles from Colorado and ROC, in junior, youth and senior sizes. Black suits nearly every uniform policy, and our fitters check width as well as length. Our full boys' school shoes range adds brown leather styles too.

Junior students who are still learning laces can start in Colorado Hybrid, which has a hook and loop strap, or in the adjustable versions of Colorado Demo, Renegade and Roar Junior. ROC Rapp Junior is a black leather school shoe with a simple shape for younger students.
For senior students, Colorado Roar is the black leather lace-up our fitters rate most for durability, in C, D, E and F width fittings in senior sizes. Colorado Daze and Hiace are further lace-ups, and ROC Strobe has a more formal look for schools with a traditional uniform. Year 7 students usually move to a senior lace-up, following what older students wear.
Leave about a centimetre in front of the longest toe and take out the insole to check it against the foot. Feet grow unevenly, so measure before each term rather than going up one size from last year. Lace firmly to the top eyelet so the heel does not slip.
Most early wear comes from sport and play: handball and footy scuff the toe and split the sole. Pack sneakers for sport, undo the laces each time, and polish weekly with black polish. Our boys' leather school shoes explain why full grain leather lasts longer.
Â
A: A full grain black leather lace-up lasts longest. Colorado Roar is the style our team recommends most for durability, especially when it is kept for school rather than sport.
Â
A: Some do. Colorado Roar comes in several width fittings in youth and senior sizes. Our team measures width as well as length in store.
Â
A: Colorado Hybrid, Demo Adjustable and Roar Junior fasten without laces, which suits students who are still learning to tie them. ROC Rapp Junior is another leather option.
Â
A: Once a week is enough for most students. Brush off dirt first, apply a thin coat of black polish, let it dry and buff it to cover scuffs and protect the leather.
Â
A: Yes. If your size or width is not on the shelf, staff can often order it in from another Mathers store, so you get the right fit rather than the closest one.
